MANAGEMENT OF SLEEP APNOEA AND SNORING

"Snoring" is a problem faced by many. It is the sound produced when a person sleeps, due to air passing through a narrowed airway. That airway is anywhere from the Nose to the Inlet of Larynx. It may be Simple Snoring, where only the noise is produced without affecting the sleep. It may be worse with the sleep being affected, in which case it is termed as OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNOEA.

It is a multifactorial problem and the causes range from Obesity, abnormal anatomy and central causes.

The treatment involves taking a thorough history and evaluation. Based on the Q&A with patient and the examination findings, the treatment may involve Exercise and weight loss, Nasal splints, Mandibular advancement devices, or may require Surgery for Nasal pathology or Oral pathology.

We ensure a detailed evaluation of this problem at our centre, and have the latest equipment for the examination of the same.

SWALLOWING DISORDERS AND MANAGEMENT

The act of swallowing is a complex mechanism that involves multiple reflexes to occur simultaneously. It involves many nerves and muscles to be coordinating synchronously in order to ensure the food reaches its intended location, the stomach.

The act of eating itself, requires proper salivation, adequate dentition, tongue movements and throat muscle functioning in order to push the food or water into the food pipe rather than the wind pipe.

Any error or malfunction or inadequacy in these components will lead to difficulty in swallowing, also known as DYSPHAGIA.

We help in the proper evaluation of dysphagia through a Fibreoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES).

Once the area of malfunction is identified, we help with corrective measures with Swallowing therapy and/or medication.

Patients that may benefit from this: Stroke survivors, Post surgery of Oral Cancer, Patients with Neurological disorders.
